Frequently Asked
Questions
1.) What is Telehealth Counseling?
Telehealth allows us to have face to face counseling through HIPAA secure video calls that are very similar to in-person therapy sessions. The primary difference is that we aren't in the same room; but we are able to speak face to face as if we were--which is something most people are already used to with Zoom, Facetime, or even Telehealth doctor visits. Telehealth counseling services are just as effective as in person counseling.
2.) Who can benefit from Telehealth Counseling?
Anyone can benefit from Telehealth counseling sessions; however, the people who benefit most are teenage girls and women who need to eliminate the need to commute to and from a counseling office and may need late afternoon appointments due to school or work or people who do not have a therapist near them. This allows more people to have access to professional counseling.
3.) Is insurance accepted for Telehealth Counseling?
Every insurance company and plan is different of course; but the insurance I do accept--Blue Cross and Blue Shield and Mississippi State Employees and School Employees Plan--is very supportive of Telehealth. I have found that most plans cover Telehealth services. Of course, please check with your insurance provider or let us know if you have any questions.
4.) What can I expect from a Christian Professional Counselor?
I utilize evidence-based techniques just as any other professional counselor would. For me, that is primarily cognitive behavioral techniques because I find them to be very effective for the range of concerns that I address in counseling. I am also a Christian with a Biblical worldview and can offer that to clients who want that to be a part of their counseling services. This is in no way pushed on clients and is only offered if a client agrees that they want it to be a part of their counseling.
5.) What if the issues or concerns I am having are outside of your areas of experience?
I am dedicated to working within my areas of expertise to provide the most effective treatment possible. If I meet someone whose needs fall outside of my areas of experience, I will refer to a qualified professional who can better meet their needs so that they can receive the best possible care.
